If you need to remove a defective lift to install a new one, below is information on how to do this without removing the top panel from your Kangaroo & Joey sewing cabinet.

Watch alternate lift install video to get a sense of how the defective lift will be removed and the new lift will be installed:

1. Open and inspect new lift assembly, block should be in the back with a zip tie holding the cylinder back, leave intact. The video below will go over all the important items to check on your new lift.

2. Spray the back of the replacement lift assembly with WD-40, ensure the rod and spring move freely and there is no gunk built up, wipe the new right rail with the lubricant on a paper towel

Moving onto the cabinet:

  1. Make sure cabinet is up against a wall and the casters are locked

  2. Remove ball catches* from side panels (hardware pieces to hold removable panel under lift) (Video Step 1) *Or any other hardware that will interfere will moving the lift rails out of the cabinet

  3. Push down on the lift to move it into the middle position or have a partner move the lift down to access the top screws on the rails, remove top screws, move lift back to the top position (Video Step 2)

  4. Unscrew the platform panel (4 screws, 2 on each side), remove panel (Video Step 3)

  5. Unscrew middle screws from the rails, the lift assembly is now loose to gently pivot the whole assembly forward (Video Step 4)

  6. Remove the lift assembly's cables from each rail notch and discard the defective lift

  7. Attach platform panel onto new lift mechanism using the 4 screws

Next is the installation of the new lift using the Alternate installation method:

  1.  Cut the zip tie from the lift assembly-DO NOT REMOVE THE BLOCK.

  2.  With the rails pivoted forward, guide the new lift assembly onto the rails, ensure the white glides are hugging the rails and the cable ends are secured into the rail notches.

  3. Firmly press down on the platform to engage the lift into the middle position. You should hear a click when the lift locks into place. This locks the mechanism in the flat bed position
(middle) and will allow you to pivot the assembly back into the cabinet to be screwed into place.
  4. Gently pivot the rails and lift assembly into the cabinet, screw the top screws on the rails into the cabinet sides.

  5.  Push on the platform to move the lift into the storage position.

  6. Remove the block from the back of the assembly-behind the lift left side-the cylinder should be pulled back far enough for the block to be loose.

  7. Screw the screws into the middle holes on the rails

  8. Press down on the lift platform to move the lift back to the tabletop

  9. Replace the ball catches back into the sides of the cabinet
